ROLE SUMMARY

The Online Merchandiser is responsible for strategically optimizing the online product assortment to drive conversion, sales performance, and product movement. This role brings a deep understanding of product, customer behavior, and business priorities to ensure the site is consistently merchandised in a way that supports best-selling strategies, promotional objectives, and overall commercial goals.

Working cross-functionally with Product Development, Buying, Sales, Marketing, and Digital teams, the Online Merchandiser plays a critical role in supporting strategic product selection across all marketing outputs—including social, PR, email, and on-site experiences. The role is highly analytical, insight-driven, and execution-focused, continuously adjusting merchandising strategies based on performance, trends, inventory position, promotional impact, and evolving ecommerce capabilities.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Strategic — 25%

· Support the development and ongoing refinement of online merchandising strategies that drive conversion, product movement, and commercial performance.

· Work closely with Product Development, Buying, and Sales teams to support best-seller strategies, product pushes, and inventory-led priorities.

· Provide strategic product recommendations and selection guidance for all marketing outputs, including social, PR, email, newsletters, and on-site placements.

· Contribute insights to promotional strategy through analysis of historical performance, customer behavior, and product response.

· Ensure merchandising decisions align with brand positioning, commercial goals, and customer expectations.

· Maximize the effectiveness of ecommerce tools and platforms by staying current through ongoing self-education; proactively leverage new features, functionality, and industry best practices to continuously evolve site merchandising and performance.

 

 

Operational — 50%

· Execute digital merchandising strategies to optimize product visibility, conversion, and sell-through across the site.

· Manage the accuracy and optimization of the online product catalog, including pricing, categorization, product content, navigation, and on-site search.

· Own on-site sequencing and merchandising adjustments based on performance, inventory position, campaigns, and customer behavior.

· Support promotional set-up and execution, including online pricing updates, campaign alignment, and online-exclusive promotions.

· Monitor live sites daily to ensure product accuracy, navigation integrity, and flawless execution.

· Support site and email QA, new feature deployments, performance bug tracking, and issue resolution.

· Ensure timely execution of merchandising updates in line with go-to-market calendars and business priorities.

 

 

Leadership & Collaboration — 25%

· Act as a key cross-functional partner to Product Development, Buying, Sales, Marketing, and Digital teams.

· Translate product and performance insights into clear, actionable merchandising recommendations.

· Drive continuous optimization by proactively identifying risks, opportunities, and execution gaps.

· Contribute to the development and documentation of best practices, processes, and merchandising standards.

· Support the Director of Ecommerce through strong execution, clear communication, and sound commercial judgment.

 

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

 

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, Commerce, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

· 3–5 years of experience in eCommerce, buying, or merchandising, preferably within fashion or retail.

· Strong understanding of product performance, conversion drivers, and online merchandising principles.

· Proven analytical skills with strong Excel proficiency; experience with Google Analytics is an asset.

· Experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, commercial environment.

· Strong commercial instinct with a deep understanding of product, promotions, and customer behavior.

· Highly analytical with the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights.
