ROLE SUMMARY 

The Assistant Line Builder supports the execution of the seasonal product line by contributing to assortment development, product lifecycle coordination, and cross-functional alignment. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of product data, supporting costing and pricing activities, and managing sample logistics throughout development. Through analysis of sales performance, market trends, and competitive insights, the Assistant Line Builder helps inform product direction while driving day-to-day coordination across Design and Product Development, and external partners to ensure on-time and efficient delivery. This role contributes to the collection building of 10% of the CIS business 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic – 15% 

 

  • Supports assortment development through analysis of sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape  
  • Conducts trend research, competitive shopping, and store visits to inform product direction and line planning 
  • Assists in identifying pricing and product opportunities through market benchmarking and competitor analysis 
  • Leads process-oriented tasks and finds solutions to optimize workflow and efficiency  

 

Operational – 80% 

 

  • Supports the product lifecycle for assigned categories, including product creation, data entry, and handover processes - 400 skus a year  
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of all product information within PLM, costing templates, and assortment tools  
  • Assists in costing activities by preparing templates, supporting negotiations, and proposing retail benchmarks aligned with market comparables  
  • Maintains daily communication with agents, AFE, and cross-functional teams to ensure timely follow-ups and alignment  
  • Supports development of product specifications, including spec creation and updates for sampling and production  
  • Oversees reception, organization, labeling, and shipment of prototypes and sales samples (SMS)  
  • Sample management- Track, Maintains, and organizes the product sample library for accessibility and manages all samples flow through the seasons 
  • Prepares seasonal materials boards, tasks for line reviews, and GTM milestones  
  • Ensures adherence to development timelines and proactively flags risks or delays  

 

Leadership – 5% 

  • Takes ownership of assigned tasks and product categories within defined scope  
  • Demonstrates accountability and strong organizational skills in managing multiple priorities  
  • Contributes to process improvements to enhance efficiency (tools, trackers, workflows)  
  • Builds collaborative relationships with internal teams, agents, and suppliers  

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s or DEC degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field  
  • Additional certifications in retail, merchandising, or product development are an asset  
  • 1–3 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or product development within fashion retail  
  • Exposure to footwear or Handbag categories is preferred  
  • Experience with PLM systems and product data management is an asset  
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills  
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint  
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy  
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs  
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset  
  • Strong interest in fashion and market trends
